The symbolic density of the gloss of the world: Alfonso’s Setenario is a sacred arithmology

Abstract

The Setenario represents a first incomplete version of the Alphonsine project to unify the legal procedures of his kingdoms, a project that would reach its goal in the Siete Partidas. Along with the Setenario, other attempts would fall by the wayside: the Speculum, the Fuero Real, before the Ius Commune coming from Bologna - divided into Ius Canonicum and Ius Civile - came to produce that Encyclopedia, that Summa represented by the Siete Partidas.
