Abstract

This paper analizes a little-known and short circumstance but it is particularly relevant: the establishment of a Knights’ Company in Real Cuerpo de Guardias de Corps. The Royal Guards are known for their elite carácter. The close relationships with the King could mean a stunning promotion in the military career or the Access to relevant public positions. With the oficial name of Segunda Compañía Española de Caballeros Americanos during the reign of Carlos IV, it opened the possibility for American loyal vassals to work in the select Real Cuerpo de Guardias de Corps.
