Legislative theory and its implementation in the western peninsular

Abstract

Synods came into being after the first five centuries of Christianity. The synod is linked to the diocese and the parish. Its birth, rise and crisis will coincide with those of these institutions. The geographical and sociological circumstances of the particular diocese will have an influence, but also the political environment and the strengthening or decline of episcopal powers will influence its development, as well as the personal qualities of the bishop.
