Abstract

In the prologue to the edition of Las Siete Partidas published by the Real Academia de la Historia, we read the political and moral purposes pursued in writing the Libro de las Leyes (Book of Laws). To achieve this, the team (or teams) in charge of carrying it out, after acknowledging the impossibility of "our knowledge", and of "our brains", affirm that they have used the books of the saints, the wise men and the laws and the good laws "that the great lords and other legal experts have made".
