Abstract

Juan de Acuña and Bejarano, 1st Marquess of Casafuerte, was an example of the use of military high command in the tasks of government during the reign of Philip V. After an arms service received orders of government in the territories relying on his honesty, loyalty and executive control. This new way of government was tried for the first time in the Crown of Aragon and moved to the rest of the Monarchy during the Eighteenth Century. Juan de Acuña was governor of Messina, General Major in Aragon and Mallorca and finally Viceroy - Captain General of New Spain.
