A century of studies on comparative penitetiary law in Spain

First studies of comparative prison law by Marcial Antonio López and Ramón de la Sagra, were published in Spain in the early nineteenth century, following the lead of the comparative studies being made in the rest of Europe. Subsequently, this particular genre was continued by Francisco Murube y Galán, Andres Borrego, Francisco Cabrerizo, Alvaro Navarro de Palencia and Fernando Cadalso, most of who were commissioned by the State to study the foreign models. Their works lightened for a century the Spanish prison reform.
