Heretics, pagans, Jews and Samaritans: prohibitions of holding public office in post- Classical and Justinian religious legislation

Abstract

The article deals with the legislation contained mainly in the Theodosian Code and in the Justinian Code on the prohibition that affected herectics, pagans, Jews and Samaritans from the end of fourth century A. D. to gain public office in the Imperial Administration.
